What Is Private AI? A Plain Explanation for Executives
Private AI means using AI in an environment your organization controls. Your data is kept separate from other users, access is controlled by role, use is logged, and your data is not used to train AI models. This differs from staff using personal public AI accounts, where the organization cannot see where data goes.
The old way
- Staff use personal public AI accounts
- The organization can't see where data goes
- No access control or usage audit
With Phak AI
- Data is separated from other users
- Access is controlled and usage can be audited
- Data is not used to train models
What is Private AI?
Private AI is AI that an organization uses in its own space. Your data is not mixed with other users, you decide who can reach what, and you can review how it was used afterward.
It can be set up in several ways, from a dedicated server for your organization in the cloud to an installation in your own data center. What matters is control over the data, not location alone.
How is Private AI different from public AI?
| Topic | Staff using personal public AI | Organization's Private AI |
|---|---|---|
| Where the data goes | The organization cannot see or control it | Stays in a space the organization controls |
| Use of data to train models | Depends on each service's terms | Clearly set so it is not used for training |
| Access rights | No separation by role | Role-based access |
| Oversight | No usage record for the organization | Use is logged and can be reviewed |
| Knowledge used to answer | General knowledge | The organization's own documents |
Questions to ask a Private AI provider
- How is our data kept separate from other customers?
- Are our data and questions used to train models?
- Can access be set by role or department?
- Is there a usage log we can review?
- How is personal data handled under PDPA?
How is Phak AI a Private AI?
Phak AI gives each organization a dedicated server. Your data is not mixed with other organizations, and it is not used to train AI models.
The system enforces role-based access, logs every question, masks personal data when documents are imported, and aligns with PDPA. See Security for details.
Frequently asked questions
Does a mid-size organization need Private AI?
If your team uses AI with customer data, pricing, or internal documents, a space you control lowers the risk of data leaking through personal AI accounts.
Is Private AI less capable than public AI?
Not necessarily. Private AI can use highly capable language models, and it often answers business questions more accurately because it answers from your own documents.
Does Phak AI train on our data?
No. Your organization's data and questions are not used to train AI models.
